DON'T BE CONFUSED

 

The mass majority of people understand what Massage Therapy is and mostly what it consist of during the session. There are two types of therapy that are familiar throughout the general public, Swedish and Deep Tissue. Swedish Massage is relaxing and generally used to bring focus to the mind and serenade the muscles, like a well put together symphony. On the other end of the spectrum is Deep Tissue. There is some confusion on what exactly Deep Tissue should be in regards to pressure. I hear time and time again the fear of how painful Deep Tissue is and how people avoid it like the plaque. Deep Tissue can be painful but should not go past your personal threshold. Deep Tissue has 2 components, each being important, Pressure and Technique. A skilled therapist can execute the same result with average pressure, but good technique. 

 

UNDERSTANDING CMT

 

At this point, your probably wondering if this blog has anything to do with the title? Well, it does because it is the middle man of what I believe most clients need or want. The official definition for Corrective MassageTherapy is this,

 

"designed to correct or counteract harmful or undesirable muscle imbalances and body posture. When the repetitiveness of our occupation or activities start to cause us pain it is because certain muscles are overused and others are underused."

 

When you are looking to stop acute or chronic pain, you must find the imbalances in the body. Even though we are one unit, we are two halfs making a whole. Majority, mostly all muscles are duplicated and have an antagonist(pulls the opposite way) on the front/back, left/right side or up/down. For that reason it is important that all muscle get their fair share of love and affection.

 

WHAT IS INVOVLVED IN CMT SESSIONS


Every therapist is different all things should be considered, where, how and what they were trained in will be of great importance. If the therapist has not trained in Facilitative Stretching for instance, they may not have a broad enough spectrum to deal with your issue. I can and will only speak for what is usually typical and/or particular to my practice.

 

What to expect in your sessions:

 

*Clothing will be, in some cases, left on during the session.  Due to various techniques this is crucial to ensure that you are never exposed.

*Stretching is part of CMT, this helps put the length back into your muscles

*Muscle testing, this is done to conclude the health of the muscle relevant to strength, endurance, pliability and weakness vs strength.

*Cryotherapy, not to be isolated to just chamber cryotherapy. Cryotherapy is water therapy. Some facilities have hot tubes, saunas, cryochambers and water pressure tables.  Smaller facilities may be using alternatives such as ice packs, ice cups and heating pads.

*Most importantly, HOMEWORK! Yes, I said homework. To get the most out of your sessions you must be willing to keep your muscles in the state in which we left it. If you choose not to be consistent, it will only hold you back from gaining optimal performance.

 

Full Circle Massage + Body CMT Plan

 

The goal is to correct what has been out of its natural state. Our plan is geared to rid you of those acute/chronic pains, enhance your performance and/or correct your posture.

 

What comes in the plan

 

* 3 sessions-(2)1 1/2 Hour Massages and (1) 1 Hour Massage

* "Getting Back To Body Basics" Starter Kit (Foam Roller, Resistant Bands, Tension Band, Yoga Mat, Water Bottle and a Towel)

 

Session One -1 1/2 Hour 

30 minutes at the beginning is used for Squat Testing

 

Squat Testing is done several times looking at all angles and noting any compensation. This will tell us where there is tight muscles and counteracting muscles.

 

The remaining 1 hour will be used to massage, stretch and PNF. PNF helps break the pain cycle that is being sent to your brain from your muscles. 

 

After the session is over we will reevaluate your area of concern and note any improvement. You will also be given a sheet that gives you the specific muscles to recondition and whether to stretch or strengthen. We will also make sure that you are doing the homework correctly.

 

Session Two-1 Hour 

 

This session is used to fine tune the areas of concern, continue the Stretching/PNF, topical treatments if needed. This session is also used to treat yourself for all your hardwork!

 

Session Three-1 1/2 Hour

 

Hopefully at this point we have made awesome progress and can finish withe the bulk of the issue at hand. All things from Session One are repeated.

Please understand that all things should be taken into consideration in regards to the progression while on this plan. We are not always able to completely correct every problem with the first round. Unfortunately, we have been conditioned not to complain about pain and to just push through. Take a moment and think about how long you have had this issue? How did it happen? Was your injury treated immediately? These questions will be a factor. If at any point we feel that other services outside of our scope would be beneficial it will be brought to your attention.
